The first day of the new year is all about new beginnings. It’s a great time to start new marketing strategies based on your customer’s enthusiasm towards a new year. While some businesses may experience a post-Christmas lull, there are ways to keep up interest in your business.

Ideas for New Year Promotions

    • New Ads for the New Year Time for a little post-holiday cleaning. Make sure you retire the Christmas message in your Adwords program, your social media ads, and promotional materials on your website. Your new ads should be focused on winter themes and new beginnings in the new year.
    • New Year’s Resolution: Engage in communication with your customers. Ask them to share their New Year’s resolution on social media and on your blog. Consider a raffle where the winning resolution receives free product or service geared towards fulfilling their resolution.
    • Throw a New Year’s Party: Generate foot traffic to your business by throwing a party for the new year. Include free product, or throw a raffle. Make sure to let people know via your blog, social media, and a newsletter.
    • New Products & Services: Think outside the box when it comes to the new year. Try new products and services. Promote them to your customers when you wish them a Happy New Year on your blog, social media, and newsletter.

Re-Evaluate Your Marketing Strategies. Make a Plan

Take time to look at the previous year. Take stock of what worked well and what didn’t work so well. Share new ideas with creative minds. Don’t hold back, brainstorm and write down what comes to mind. Take the best ideas and come up with a plan. Schedule your promotions in advance. Try to stay at least a month ahead in your planning for upcoming holidays and events. This way, you have time to work out the kinks and give your customers advance notice of what’s ahead.

How do you know what to plan for? That depends on your industry. Each industry has its own seasonal patterns and special dates. However, there are some general trends that any business can take advantage of.
